What is the Demand of Time? | Arijit Chakraborty | Book Review
Demand & Supply is one term that more frequently appears in selective discussions but exists in all domains of life. We only think of this collective term to describe the market or economy more frequently. However, if you view it as a basic tenet of life, a guiding principle for that matter; it is capable to bring in significant impact.
What is the Demand of Time? By Arijit Chakraborty is a self-help book that explores the different faces of demand in our lives. The book comprises seven chapters — each dealing with a different type of demand — emphasizing the importance of identifying demand and then finding ways to fulfill it. It could be a demand for knowledge, money, time, creativity, fearlessness, proactivity, or something as simple as practicality.
The book essentially follows the key idea of recognizing the demands in your life. Unless you know them, you cannot fulfill them. At the same time, in your pursuit of fulfillment, you must not submit or worse, succumb to them. We must be mindful of what we want and what we do.
The author, who is a neurosurgeon, used medical concepts to explain his points in the book. Along with that, he employed flowcharts and diagrams to illustrate his point better. Moreover, one would stumble upon some relevant quotes by famous personalities that further support the arguments put forth by the author. With that being said, the preciseness of narrative and easy language made reading it enjoyable. A quick but informative ride, indeed.
Barring the pace and presentation, especially, in the first half of the book, it was a good reading experience. I just found the concepts were not thoroughly put forward or hopped on quickly. Apart from this, it is definitely a good pick for readers who want an easy-peasy self-help book.
