The Riddle of Tomorrow by Zeeshan Hassan is a contemporary thriller set in the city of Ahmedabad. It is a thriller that lays out several puzzles, right in front of us, for us to solve the mystery and come up with the truth.
It is a story of Owais who lands up in Ahmedabad for his job. He is compelled to wear the garb of fake identity to find a house. Furthermore, the exciting part is that the previous occupant of his place is the most wanted in the country. To further complicate the story is Owais’ boss, Soresh, who apparently supports terrorism. Why would he do so? What is the mystery behind that previous occupant of the property where Owais is living? And what’s the fate of his love story with Nyla? Would he be able to fulfill her father’s demands?
The book focuses on Owais who’s on his feet to solve the mystery behind the serial bombing planned in Ahmedabad. He says -’ tomorrow raises us, today hinders.’ And what hinders you strengthens you. The story starts off with Owais and Nyla’s love story but moves on to him fitting the clues of the puzzle to get a clear picture. He wants to save the city from terrorists. As mentioned on the cover, this book thoroughly exploits puzzles. Having said that, it’s a book that would ask you to think hard to solve the mystery for yourself too.
The Riddle of Tomorrow is a well-written book that has a unique way of weaving a baffling story. It also explores the dynamics of our society divided on the basis of religion. Thus, it is thrilling, a bit sensitive, and a lot much intriguing. The character of Owais keeps us hooked and the storyline keeps us asking for more. However, personally, I found myself taking longer to navigate the story. It got confusing for me as it transitioned from one thing to another. But I guess, that’s how it is designed to be. The writing is fine and so is the idea behind the story.
Nonetheless, if you’re looking for a thrilling read and would want to wear your thinking caps, you might pick this one up.
