Ruins | Suvrahadip Ghosh | Book Review

Ruins by Suvrahadip Ghosh is a collection of 30 poems, essentially on love, loss, death, heartbreak, and living life despite everything. The poems are strikingly beautiful as they comprise a good range of metaphors, poets, and artists. A book of poetry that makes you feel is a book that must be cherished. Ruins is the one for me.

This book celebrates love in 70 pages. It shows how love arrives and how it leaves, just like seasons. It goes on to shed light on the fact that love touches you, brushes past you, and never returns. Sometimes, it does but more often than not, it doesn’t. We would wait for it, with dried-up tears and ashes of cigarettes or maybe with the pungent smell of whiskey; love doesn’t return. At least not in the same way it left.

Love is a simple emotion that often ends up getting embroiled in a deluge of definitions. It is justified though because each one of us looks at love differently and that makes it special and personal. Love is so much about little things. Love also stays true in the long run, differently for different love. Some people grow old together, in the bounty of love. While others lose the touch by the time they step in their 30s or so. To forget the love we once had for someone is a tragedy. I do love tragedies.
